Hurricane Katrina
On August 28th, 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit the southern coast of Louisiana. The back of St. Michael’s roof was seriously damage by a fallen oak tree. It not only damaged the metal roof but it also bent and twisted the steel rafters which had to be replaced. There were some leaks in the Church from worn rubber gaskets on the metal screws for the metal sheeting. Not only was the damaged rafters and sheeting replaced but also all the screws on the entire roof were replaced. The roof was then pressure washed and a double coat of sealant was applied. Some of the damaged ceiling tiles in the church had to be replaced. This was all paid for by a very generous parishioner.
